NIC Birthday Decoder
Read the birth date encoded in an old or new Sri Lankan identity number locally.
Decode the birth date encoded in an old or new Sri Lankan NIC.
Your NIC is decoded in this browser without submitting the number to this tool's server. Use only your own number or one you have permission to check.
This is NOT identity verification or proof that a card was issued. For official confirmation contact the Department for Registration of Persons.
How the NIC date code works
The first two (old) or four (new) digits encode the birth year. The next three use a fixed 366-slot calendar, reserving February 29 every year. A code above 500 indicates a female marker; day 060 is invalid in common years.
Questions
Can this verify an NIC?
No. Only the issuing department can confirm identity or issuance.
Why do some calculators differ by one day?
Some incorrectly count February as 28 days when interpreting the fixed NIC code.
